Herbie Bohnet | Penn Office of Investments

Herbie joined Penn’s Office of Investments in 2020 and currently oversees all legal matters related to the management of the University’s endowment and pension plans.

Prior to joining Penn, Herbie was Managing Director and General Counsel for TIFF Investment Management.

Herbie holds a BSE from Duke University and a JD from Stanford Law School.

What impact do you hope to make through your work at Penn?

I hope to help the team structure the terms of our portfolio investments in a way that aligns us well with partners over the long term.

How did your own experiences with higher education change you?

I grew up in a small farm town in Western NY. College and law school gave me exposure to new parts of the country and, more beneficially, smart and interesting peers from all over the country and the world. I learned more from that experience than I did in the classroom.

What is the best gift you ever received?

A battery-powered alarm clock. It was a high school graduation gift from a great aunt and uncle. I remember rolling my 17-year-old eyes when I opened it. That little clock not only kept me from sleeping through classes over the next seven years, but also reminded me of dear family every day.
